This course serves as an introduction to the music industry and the role of its various entities, including record labels, music publishers, PROs, and licensing collectives. We will review basic copyright principles (e.g., bundle of rights, infringements, remedies), the Copyright Act (including the DMCA), consent decrees and relevant case law. We will also examine income streams and the various types of contracts for songwriters, recording artists, producers and various licensees of music from film, TV, and streaming services.
