7282. Field Placement: Prison Law Seminar

This field placement seminar will provide students with training in the legal framework governing prisons, including Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment jurisprudence, the Prison Litigation Reform Act (PLRA), and relevant U.S. Supreme Court and Second Circuit precedent. The seminar will also include simulations, skill-building exercises, and guided discussions on the ethical, strategic, and policy issues that arise in carceral advocacy. Students will be expected to critically reflect on their fieldwork and consider the role of lawyers and oversight agencies in driving prison reform and systemic accountability. The Prison Law Field Placement is a required co-requisite. Students who enroll in this field placement will be subject to a criminal background check prior to access to correctional facilities.
