This experiential course combines theory and doctrine with practice in the skills involved in strategizing for change in the criminal system. Each semester, students working in a team conduct research, consult with community partners, identify avenues for policy change, and make recommendations on policy issues. Students meet once a week as a class with the instructor and work collaboratively throughout the rest of the week. Student work may include: providing written or oral testimony at legislative hearings, giving presentations to stakeholders, drafting policy briefs for legislators, and writing op-eds or other media materials.
