This seminar course explores the transformative impact of technology on the legal profession, examining how innovation is reshaping the role of lawyers and legal service delivery. Balancing theoretical knowledge with practical skills, students will delve into key topics like legal practice management software, e-discovery, digital evidence, AI in law, cybersecurity, data privacy, blockchain, smart contracts, legal analytics, and virtual law practice. Through hands-on experience with legal tech tools, students will gain insight into current trends and potential future developments in the digital legal landscape. The course covers the fundamentals of technological innovation and legal system design, emphasizing real-world applications in legal settings. Students will develop critical thinking skills for evaluating and implementing new technologies, while also considering the ethical implications of their use in law. The course culminates in a capstone project where students propose a technology-based solution to a contemporary legal challenge. No prior technical experience is required.
